Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your interest in joining our Region. AYSO is a volunteer-run organization. Coaches, referees and administrators are all volunteers and we depend on all of you to help fill some of the most important roles in the region. Without the help of you volunteering your time, there simply is no AYSO Region 381. This is what makes AYSO very affordable. Although AYSO operates in a business manner it is our volunteers that help ensure healthy kids are playing a sport they can enjoy for life.
AYSO has developed special training that helps parents who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to be effective coaches and referees. It also has unique administrative and management training. This ensures that each community program:
- Abides by the AYSO philosophies
- Offers a great AYSO experience
- Continues to grow, offering the AYSO opportunity to more children
Although it is not required that you volunteer, we ask that at least one parent of each participant volunteers for the following roles: Coach, Center Referee or Assistant/Line Referee . This alleviates the 'burden' some parents may feel having to Coach or Referee 'EVERY GAME'.
It only takes a few hours to become qualified as an introductory-level coach or referee, however, if you’re not able to commit even that much time, there are many small jobs you can help with. About an hour of your time every weekend would be an important contribution to your team and the Region!
These are the available roles for each season but most importantly, we need Coaches and Referees as there cannot be teams without Coaches or games without Referees (sorry, we can't stress enough!)
Head and Assistant Coach: No experience is required for before coaching. Please contact the appropriate Age Group Coordinator for more details.
Referees: No experience necessary but Referees must be certified. Please contact the appropriate Age Group Coordinator for more details.
Team parent: Responsible for team communication, coordinating the team photos, coach gifts and the end-of-season party.
Goal setup/tear-down: Teams that play the first or last game of the day must set up or tear down the goals for their field. It only takes a few people and can be done in about 15 minutes.Field striping: Teams that play the first game of the day may be asked to help re-stripe the field using the supplied equipment. This job can be done in about 5 minutes.Board members: Board members are responsible for the overall guidance of the region. From time to time, we will have open positions, but even if we don't have anything listed, we can always find something!
We welcome all volunteers! So, if you are a parent and are not able to volunteer, please help spread the word for us! Do you have a friend or relative that can help? Tell them to visit www.ayso381.org to sign up!!
I'm convinced. Sign me up!
For board member, coaching, referee, and team parent positions, please register as a volunteer (please register or log in first, see help page if needed). All applicants must pass a background check performed by Sterling Volunteers, an independent third party.
Board members, coaches, referees, and team parents must all take the Safe Haven online course. Board members, coaches and referees are also required to take the CDC Concussion Awareness online course. The concussion course is recommended, but not required for team parents. Online courses are available at the AYSOU site.
